The 1st XI made 2 changes to last weeks team and tried to get back to winning ways at Slades Lane vs Eastwood. It was the away side that won the toss and elected to bat.
It took until the 4th over for Galleywood to make the breakthrough, with Sam Adams bowling Huckstepp for 4. It was 2 down in the next over as a suicidal run call from opener Creasey sold Robinson well short and he had to make his way back to the pavillion having only faced 2 balls. Galleywood allowed Creasey to add to his score in increments of 4 but that partnership of 35 was broken when Sam had skipper Deeming caught at square leg by brother James. The next two wickets to fall were courtesy of Storey; he had Creasey out bowled for 42 and Harris picked out Nurcombe on 24. This next wicket has to go down as the most bizarre of the season; Felton bowls and Barr top edges one straight up in the air. It looked a shoe in for Brace to catch it behind the stumps, but he was unsighted and the ball fell out of the air, took one bounce backwards and dislodged the bails! Barr had to go for 9! Clayden had 1 wicket just a ball before the heavens opened and we all made our way off with the score 132/7 after 31.5 overs
150 minutes had passed and the pitch was fit to play. James Adams and Jimmy Brace were at the create ready to start chasing the total. They made the most of some loose Eastwood bowling and shared a partnership of 97. Brace was the first man out as he was bowled by Rhys Tomlin for 25 in 48 balls. By this time James had already amassed 63 runs and was well on his way to a match winning knock for the 1st XI. His half century coming up with one of four sixes in this innings for him. The second wicket was on the board just 3 balls later, as Murray was run out after a direct hit. Wild celebrations were sparked with Galleywood still needing 35 runs in the remaining 90 or so balls. James kept up his fast scoring and brilliant shots on his way to a phenomenal 88* from 68 balls while Day at the other end was 8* from 13 balls at the end.
