Once half of Galleywood’s team were able to find Holy Cross Recreation Ground, skipper Gray won the toss and chose to bat on a hot day with a good pitch beneath us. Rensberg and Morgan ensured runs were at a premium at the start of the match, with Galleywood building a steady but key opening stand. That stand was worth 65 when in the 20th over Gray was the first to depart after being caught behind. D Howard and Adams fell within 4 overs of each other and Galleywood’s scoring was still being restricted. Over 32 saw the key wicket fall, that of H Jacobs for an excellent 74 in 98 balls comprising of 10 fours and showed great control to find the spaces around the field. Galleywood pushed on in the end with an unbeaten partnership of 60 between Ledsome (ending 31* in 21 balls) and Singleton (ending 30* in 23 balls). At the end of their 40 batting overs, Galleywood had made 188/6. Bowler of the day for Basildon must be W Morgan with his 8 overs, 2 maidens, 1 wicket for just 6 runs.
After some much needed refreshment, Basildon started their chase and batted sensibly upfront. Waterman and Rajaram survived the new ball, including 5 consecutive maiden overs from E Boddu. Ledsome came on first change and bowled well in his spell removing each of the top 3, but not after Ather had made 41 runs, 34 of those runs being boundaries. Skipper Edmonds was the star of the show for Basildon as he posted 70 with 13 fours and this really took the game away from Galleywood. 3 wickets fell in the closing stages, which could have set up a tight finish but Basildon made it over the line with 13 balls to spare, scoring 189/6 and winning by 4 wickets. Ledsome came in with 3-40 and Clayden 2-15 both from their 8 overs.
