High Roding vs Galleywood 1st XI - 19th June Match Report

19 Jun 2021

Galleywood travelled to High Roding today and were greeting with the lovely sight of full pitch covers, meaning the game was on! Galleywood won the toss and elected to bowl.

Galleywood started strongly with the ball as two wickets fell in 4th and 5th over, one each to the opening bowlers with just 12 on the board. 2 overs later another High Roding batsman was out, to put the score 16/3 after 8 overs. High Roding were watchful during an opening spell where they contented with swing at both ends and the odd ball showing the tennis ball bounce on a great strip. The fourth wicket was to fall in the 12th over. At the 20 over mark, the score was 32/4 and the openers Hicks and Clayden had done a good job at giving Galleywood a much-needed strong start. First change bowlers Adams and Cockrell added 3 wickets to the tally, as they continued to keep the ball swinging consistently posing questions to the High Roding batsman. Runs were added by Gilfrin, A Burns and F Burns in these middle overs too taking the score to 83/7 after 34 overs. Will Davis then strode to the crease and added an unbeaten 31 from 36 balls to lead High Roding to finishing on 130/10 with Felton and Storey able to take the remaining wickets. Best bowler for Galleywood was Clayden taking 3-11 from his 10 overs

Going into the run chase, High Roding were in the wickets column with the 10th ball of the innings, after Halls bowled Murray for a duck. Shortly after Davis dismissed Day leaving Galleywood 18/2 after just 7 overs. Sturton and Adams were able to add 24 for the next wicket, as they got to grips with the moving ball and took advantage of the loose deliveries. Adams made 21 in all before he picked out a fielder. Between overs 18 and 20, Galleywood went from comfortable 55/3 to 56/6. F Burns’ 4th over was a double wicket maiden and the 3 wickets in 9 balls during this spell, created a nervy time for Galleywood. Rayner was calmly getting on with business at the other end and required a partner to stay with him to steady the innings. Hicks was able to do that, as he batted resolutely for his 11* in 47 balls, but there is no doubt that Rayner had got himself set at the other end, to punish the bad balls and soon pass 50 runs. A muted celebration from him at this point as the job wasn’t complete. Rayner completed the job with the 2nd of his sixes to end his innings 66* from just 67 balls. F Burns came out as the best bowler for High Roding with figures of 3-27 in his 8 overs.
